The dangerous celphone

Yesterday, when I was putting a drawer of my desk in order, I found an unbelievable sight in there. These are the pictures of the sight.

This is the cellphone that I used to have, and this cellphone was left in the drawer of my desk. It has swelled so much that it wight explode. It is really scary.
I will go to cellphone shop with this cellphone to get it fixed someday.
I really wonder what was the cause of swelling.
Anyway I had better not touch this cellphone any more. It might explode if I touch it violently.

By the way, the other days, Yuhei got the new cellphone, and I really envy him. I want to buy a new cellphone. However, I can not afford to buy it now.

Me and Another me

These days, I am really busy with a large amount of assignments, and part-time job. Also, I have some mental agony, and often I can not concentrate on anything I do. I think this term of my life is the worst but challenging days. I am lost in my life... Now I understand what Suguru used to say always, his famous quote. However, I will change and make it alright for sure.

Today, I would like to show the old picture of mine.
The girl next to me is my sister.
The picture was taken on Novenber 15, the gala day for boys of three and five and girls ofthree and seven.
I do not exactly remember where the location was, but it was maybe Ibaraki shrine nearby my house.
Don't you think I look really cute???
I am often said, "You are little different from yourself in the old days." Maybe it is true. I am as cute as what I used to be.
It dose not matterlol.
I wish I could go back to this term of my life, without any distress and worries.

Long night

Last weekend, I had a really good time.

I went to a banquet of my workplace. One of my coworkers held it, and almost all the members gathered except our boss, because he did not invite our boss; we do not like our boss.

The banquet was held at "anzu" in Ibaraki. The mood there was comfortable and they serve a lot of delicious and unique foods and tasty alcohol.

There were 15 people there, and we all drank some alcohol and talked and enjoyed for 5 hours. It was really fun, and everyone became more friendly and our relation got closer.

After that, we were a little drunk. Some people went to Karaoke in Ibaraki, and others did not. I did not go and 3 other men did not either, because we wanted to go to play bowling. One of our coworker who did not come to the banquet came to pick us by car, because he was the only man who was being sober. By his car, we went to Karaoke just to say goodbye to everyone, and after that, we went to play bowling and pool. And then, we decided to go for a drive to Awaji-shima to see Akashi-Kaikyo-Ohashi. The bridge is the second longest bridge in Japan bridging between Hyogo and Awaji-shima, and the full length is about 4 kilo meters long.

We arrived the bridge at 5 o'clock, and enjoyed the beautiful night view. After we passed it, we arrived Awaji-shima. We enjoyed driving, and the sun was beginning to rise and the view was also beautiful. After we drove around there, we drove back to our hometown, Ibaraki and Takatsuki. When we arrived, it was 10 a.m. We enjoyed very much, and I am looking forward to the next banquet.

Basketball match

On Saturday, I had a basketball match between SWISH and a team named KYONYU. The team is improvised by my friends from my junior high school youth. I wanted to have more practice matches against a lot of teams and I asked my friends to shoot some hoop with us. They are from Osaka Economic and Legal University, and Otemon University, and so on.

Girls in SWISH had a match against a team which is consisted f several girls from Otemon University, and one of them is my friend's friend.

All of opponents belong to basketball club, not circle. That means they practice basletball almost everyday, so they were really good at playing basketball.

The result was about 40-70, we lost.
Girls lost at the score about 29-31.

Though we lost, it was a great experience for us.

Also, as most of opponents were my friends, I was really happy to see them again. And I felt like going back to junior high school days, like we were again in the same team.

About the article "Alone at a time of danger"

This is about how the author is trying to persuade readers in the article “Alone at a time of danger.” He starts his opinion by explaining one example that really struck him. He suggests that one man who was interviewed did nothing while the crime was happening. he used one of the real stories of the fact that people feel troublesome or indifferent to helping others. According to the article, “he didn't go investigate, he didn't even call the police, and he did nothing.” It is obvious that the man did nothing by knowing his behaviors in de tail. This example is detailed because the author said this problem really struck him and happened in Kawaguchi City, Saitama. Emotional appeal was used in this first paragraph.

He again raised another fact that shows how troublesome people feel about helping other people. Though there are no clear details about the situation where people witnessed the victim being dragged away, there is a statement “all the passengers looked on”, and this statement proves how obvious people are reluctant to help people in danger.

These 2 will be the authority, and he suggests his own solution to make us understand the fact seriously.

The response to the article about the new law in Japan

Regarding the article about Japanese new system of reinforcing country’s security “Not so welcome to Japan any longer”, Kevin Rafferty suggests that the new law of immigration is a failure that Japanese government has committed, and this law would give foreign countries a bad impression toward Japan. However, the reinforcing of security should be put priority rather than considering the views of other countries, because there are more and more terrorists invading into a country and cause some dangers in the modern society all over the world, and it is getting a seruious problem, like in U.K., U.S., to say nothing of Japan.

What is the first priority is to take measures to enhance the system of protecting a country, and consider the countermeasures against possible dangers like terrorism. It does not mean this system of new law is discriminating against people who would be examined; just a precise countermeasure.

The response to the letter about discrimination in Japan

Racial discrimination is seen everywhere in Japan from old days of Japanese society, though it varies what groups are discriminated against depending on the customs and histories in each region.

As for the article “Ebb and flow of discrimination” written by Mike Dewood, he suggests that it is sure that the discrimination is seen in Japan, but it depends where we live. Also, he tries to persuade us by explaining his own experiences in Nagasaki; how he was treated by 0thers, or Japanese people, in Nagasaki.

However, there are no specific details about his article. The article says “I have had kids throw rocks at me, two seniors spit in my face, and a note left in my mailbox that read ‘foreigner go home.’” It seems like a absolute discrimination, but he does not explain the details of these happenings; when and where, and why in what situation. It is not persuasive enough for us to believe that they are true through just reading this article. I have never heard that such discrimination happens here in Japan. When did he go through these painful discriminations by Japanese people? I do not think that those direct and brutal discriminations are so common in modern Japanese society, though some kinds of them still exist to some extent. Also, the article says “it (discrimination) is quite prevalent over here” at the last sentence of this article. However, is it true? If so, how can this writer prove that? I have never heard that.

The response to the articles about four U.S. marines

This kind of trouble has happened many times in Japan. In the past, rape commited by American soldiers frequently happened, and it was one of the serious problems in Japan, especially in Okinawa. This problem still happens, and should not be left.

As for the article "Don't judge marines too fast", the author suggests that the judgment of the police should not be determined too fast and the police do not have evidence much enough to determine four marines.

The author has the good reason to insist on his suggestion. It is true that the police has not revealed the clear details. However, the point is that how the author thinks about Japanese women working in a bar? It is not true that these women are easy to take them out of the bar.

Also, U.S. military involvement in Japan should not be taken into account when we consider the rape committed by the four marines, and there is not only the fact that the U.S suppot Japan but also Japan suppots the U.S. about military involvement, as there is a treaty, the Japan-U.S. mutual defense assistance agreement.

Why I am in IES

Before I came to this university, I did not know much about IES program. When we took TOEFL at the very first day of school, we had to decide whether to take IES program or not. I did not want to take it because I did not want to let me get so busy with studying hard in school. However, I eventually chose to take it. I think it was pride that made me choose the way.

As everyone knows, it is hard to be in IES, and there are some rules in class. We must speak only English, never Japanese in classroom. We have to keep higher grades than regular classes. We have to have the motivation to improve our English skills. Compared to other classes, the classes of IES are much more academic and harder and teachers give us a lot of assignments.

At the early days of school, I felt really sick of IES classes, and I was so busy with many other things in university life. I sometimes even thought I wanted to retire. Maybe I made efforts because teachers says to do so; not because of my own will. As time went by and classes got stricter, I got so busy, and I came to be able to deal with the difficulties in IES after all.

At first, I was really busy and upset with IES class and assignments, but I got accustomed to them as I overcame each ordeal. Now I like to be in IES program, and I pride myself on being in IES program. It makes me get motivated and gives me a great situation to study.

My aims during the 2nd semester

In the last blog, I wrote about the look back upon the 1st semester.

So today I would like to write about the resoltion and some aims during 2nd semester.

First of all, the 2nd semester is much less demanding and moch more easier mentally for me, though we have to do more assignments than we did at the 1st semester. This may be because I got accustomed to this school life. Still I always work hard to survive...

Also, I got much busier than I was at 1st semester. I have to study at lessons in university, and after the classes my teachers give me a lot of assignments. I began to do a part-time job from this summer vacation, and I have to work at least 3 days a week. I want to quit because of the busyness, but I need money to live or enjoy myself in the university life. I have to care about my circle all the time, and sometimes I have to do some works related to the circle at home, and there are a meeting once a week, and of course I participate in and play basketball. I have to think about the circle all the time and I have to direct and inform everyone of some information. It is really troublesome, but it is challenging for me, and I want to do my duties as the captain of circle. Of course I need a lot of time to spend with my friends. I think it is the most important thing for me to enjoy university life.

Therefore, I want to have more free time to spare during 2nd semester. Also, I want to spenrd the time much more efficiently than 2nd semester. I also want to study English hard for TOEFL test and TOEIC test. I want to make more money. I hope my circle would become better and better as more and more each day goes by.

Look back upon the life of first semester

Today I want to talk about my life of the first semester in this university.

The first day (the day we took TOEFL test) of school made me really nervous. I had no friends, though I had some acquaintances who belonged to the same high school as mine. I was alone at first, but when the first orientation started, I talked to the person who were sitting next to me. It took littletime to get friendly with him, as we had a lot in common. And now, he is one of my best friends in here. We went to playground in this university and used to play basketball everyday, and more and more each day went by, after all we had a lot of friends. These people are the members of SWISH now.

At the first class of IESa began, I was really upset and surprised, because everyone spoke very well, and I did not. I was completely overwhelmed. Also, there are many assignments to do outside the class, so I was so busy finishing them every day.

One day, I decided to create a circle with my friends, and it was such a big try. It
took me a great deal of time to do that, and I faced many difficulties. I was full of distress. It was far more difficult and challenging than I had expected. However, it was such a great experience to do that, and to be a captain. Thanks to the circle, now I have a lot of friends in this school. Obviously it makes my life in this school enjoyable so much.

To consider everything about the first semester, I enjoyed myself very much. I experimented with a lot of things. I hope the second semester will be a great one also.

The responce to 2 articles

Recently, obviously the flux of “gairaigo” has become a serious problem, and it is getting more and more seriously. This problem, the flux of “gairaigo”, has made it unable for most Japanese to understand the words, “gairaigo”, because it is used just to show off and it does not have to be used as katakana. This makes it more difficult and irritating to try to understand.
I thought it is really crucial and we can not leave this problem. I agree with the idea that Japanese culture is losing its characteristics. I mean Japanese culture is affected by some cultures of other countries with the influx of words or phrases of other languages. I think this problem might weaken the characteristic of Japan, and the dignity of Japan as a country should be protected.
In fact, we can often see “gairaigo” being written in many kinds of writings, like newspaper, and homepage on the internet. I feel it is not unusual that there are full of “gairaigo”. The fact itself, that I take it granted that this phenomenon of the influx of “gairaigo”, is really strange and funny. I have long thought that this was a common sense. However, it is true that most of Japanese do not perceive the fact, and unconsciously exploit “gairaigo” on the writings or on the internet without knowing the actual meanings of the words
I hope that Japanese culture will not be affected completely at a level at which it would be too late.

Summer Vacation

This summer vacation, I was really corrupted; all plays and no studies.
As soon as the summer vacation began, the burdens that used to make me feel disappointed and suppressed went away, and soon I fell into raptures. The most of time was spared for entertainments. The first thing I enjoyed was the birthday party of my friend’s in this university. There were about 10 people, and we held the party at one’s home of them. Everyone bought the present and cooked dinner and got drunk and talked all night. When the morning came, we took a walk to refresh and on the way we found a small park, and played tag at 6:00 a.m. Maybe we were really crazy, though it was really interesting. After that we went McDonald’s and ordered some drinks and foods, talking about trivial things or kept silence because we were really tired and sleepy. After that we went back to one’s place, and the party was finished, leaving us exhaustions, sleepiness, and drunkenness. Anyway, it was really strange but merry birthday party.

Also I went to Tenjin festival, which is the famous and big festival, in Osaka. If you are interested in this event of mine, you can check it from the previous blog that I have posted on this page, so I leave out writing this event.

I went to another festival, which is held in my home town. Every year I go there. This year, I went there with my girlfriend and enjoyed a lot, eating takoyaki, yakisoba, French fries, deep-fried chickens, popcorns, and many other things. As we strolled through the crowd, we found many friends of us many times. This is the really great and important thing to go to the festival in my hometown. After walking around the entire street, we went back home.

The typical summer event, sea bathing, I enjoyed also. I went to Suma in Kobe in Hyougo with my girlfriend. It has been a long time since I last went sea bathing, so I was really excited and enjoyed so much. There were so many people in the seaside and in the sea also. During we were floating in the sea, some of men got a big portable sound box into the sea carrying it on a shoulder of a man. He raised the volume to the maximum, at which many people could hear the songs they played. They played the songs of BLACK EYED PEAS, so I was really excited with it, and kept listen to it, floating in the sea. They were doing it to make us feel excited, but they were obviously drunk with some alcohol in their hands. Also, some people seemed to be annoyed about it. Anyway it was a really interesting scene. We were there about 6 hours, and after that we went to Kobe in order to walk around the streets and buy something. We went back home after having dinner at a restaurant.

Also, I began to do part time job at a casual dining bar named Kocoroya. It belongs to the same group of the famous bar, Warawara, and Shirokiya. The work is really hard, but I managed to do it, and I will keep this job. This semester will be really hard...

Tenjin-matsuri

This is the last blog of 1st semester.

On July 25th, I went to Tejin-matsuri with my girlfriend and two friends of mine. Do you know it? It is one of the most famous summer festivals in Japan, and it is in Osaka. Many stalls are opened during the festival, such as takoyaki, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, shaved ice, fried chicken, beer, and some alcohol. Also, we can see fireworks there. To see fireworks is a main event for many people. In fact, we went there to see fireworks.

When we arrived at Temma-bashi station nearby the place of the festival, we had a lot of tme to spare before fireworks lanched, so we walked around there to spare time. We spent our pocket money on some foods and sweets at many stalls. When we walked around buildings, we happened to see Mrs.Devi Scarno. It was surprising, because she looked me in the eyes, and waved her hands to us. We were really exciting at the moment.

After time went by, we walked all the way to look for and keep the place where we can see fireworks. However, there were soooooooooooo many people that we got tired from walking. Finally we ended in sitting on a street. Many people were also sitting down on a street. However, when fireworks started, 4 of us and many people near us realized that we could not see them because we were in a bad location to see fireworks. We moved to see them, but we had to walk through a very big crowd. It was really hot and complex and frustrating to walk through the crowd. In the end, we decided to go back to the station before it would be too crowded to get a train to go home. Even though we could hardly see fireworks, we enjoyed so much. I want to go to the festival next year, too.

And I will enjoy this summer vacation.

SWISH

Today I want to introduce about my circle, SWISH.

This picture above was taken when we played basketball on Thursday. There are some of the members in SWISH. Every Thursday, we play basketball in the playground.

SWISH was made by me and some of my great friends, when it was not so long after school began. The first members were 8 in number. We got acquainted through basketball during recess. One day we decided to go and see a basketball circle. However we found that the circle was not so good, in terms of the moods while practicing and of policy and the way they practice. Everyone did not want to join the circle, so we decided to make a circle by ourselves.

The name, SWISH, is derived from one of the member's favorite word. "SWISH" refers to a hissing or rustling sound when a basketball shot goes through the basket. Now every Thursday, we play basketball in the playground, and in some public gym in Hirakata City irregularly

By the way, the person who is in the center of the picture is YUHEI giving the finger. Ignore him.

Cocoa

I introduced my dog about a month ago on my page. Today I want to talk about her more. The picture on the right side is really funny, isn't it? Her ears are so long that she looks like "Stitch"(a movie's character). What is really good point in this picture is that this kind of her face looks like a smile, I think.

The picture in the left side is taken at the same time as the another one. That's why these pictures have oppsite expressions. As for the picture in left, her ears are bent, and she looks really funny. Also she looks sad. This makes me laugh. However, she is so cute, isn't she?

Sparkle

Summer is coming soon. I love Summer, so I cannot wait. Actually I don't like to go out for watching fireworks, because there would be a lot of people. Being in the crowds makes me frustrated.

So, I have an alternative way to enjoy summer.

Do you see what this picture is?

This is a picture of a sparkle(senko hanabi), which was taken when I was with my friends.
This picture is really beautiful, isn't it? Every time I see this, I feel melancholy so much. However this makes me think of a lot of things, such as distress, stress, and sorrow. I think it is very important, so why don't you try it and have some time to look back.

Cheering flag

Today I want to introduce one of my best memories in my high school days.
The picture above is the cheering flag. Can you guess what is this?

As the time was drawing near when we would have the last basketball tournament, the flag was prepared to let someone give us messages and make us motivated.
This flag has a lot of cheering messages from people who are in Mishima high school(My school) , mainly students and teachers. Whoever wants to leave message can write down on it.

In school in Japan, it may be an established custom to make such flags. The flag is brought to the the place where we play the game against an opponent, and it is exhibited just above the bench of ones' own team. Maybe it also plays an important role as a kind of lucky charm, because it shows that the team is supported or cheered by a lot of students, and it is full of desires that the team would win.

By the way, I want to introduce some messages from the picture above.
"Do your best"
"Do not stop running, keep running, and smiling!"
"I wanna see your dunk shot!!"
"Show us your 3-year compilation!"
"You have practiced so hard, and don't hasitate, just believe yourself!!"

There are also some interesting message.
"RYUTA, I love you..."
"I wanna watch baseball game."

I want to go back to my high school days...

Baby Hatch

Today I would like to talk about the issue of baby hatch. It is a facility or place where mothers can bring their unwanted or abandoned infants(leave them in a safe place to be found and cared for). In Japan, the facility had been taken out of use, but abolished after some problems happened. In 2006, the Jikei hospital in Kumamoto prefecture announced it was setting up the facility, and in 2007, it began to take use of it. However there were many opinions of both approvals and objections.

1. Baby hatch is not the answer

The writer of this writing agrees with a baby hatch.
She explains her own experience as an example to support her idea; she now works with developmentally disabled adults, so she knew how serious the losses of their parents are. Also, she thinks even though the baby hatch is taken out of use, people will continue to abandon children in other places.

2. Baby hatch beats alternative

The writer of this writing disagrees with a baby hatch.
She uses the factual information about the case that a junior high school student gave birth to a baby, but she abandoned her baby in a nearby temple. Such kind of information sounds really sad, miserable, and unfortunate. So this information will be the feeling that supports her idea and makes us agree with her idea.

My Opinion

My opinion is that baby hatch is not the answer.
It is true that the unwanted or abandoned babies will decrease in number, but it is not so easy to realize the stratagem. There will be some problems if baby hatch is taken out of use, and spread out in Japan. To come to think of the feelings of people who have been abandoned, it is horrible. What would happen if they found they are the ones who were in baby hatch? How would you feel if you are one of them? Maybe this fact will be very unacceptable to believe. Even if they could accept it, the heavily shocked feelings would stay in their minds forever.
Also, I think the more officially recognized baby hatch becomes, the more abandoned babies. I mean if baby hatch is widely recognized and spreads out and becomes in fashion, at last it results in the serious problem of outbreaks of unwanted and abandoned babies. It even promotes the problems. It seems like a solution to have baby hatch, but it is a solution "on the surface".

BJ league

Today I want to introduce professional basketball teams in Japan.

This league is called BJ league. Of cource we can't compare it with NBA though.

Look at this picture.

This is the picture of members of Osaka Evessa.

When I was a high school student, my coach of our team suggested that we should go and see the professional basketball with our own eyes. As it was the first year since the organization of Japanese professinal teams was founded, I was very excited, and all of us agreed to see it. And we went to Moriguchi city(next to Hirakata) to see the game between Osaka Evessa and Sendai. I was very impressed with their fantastic performances; quick dribbles, 3-point shots, alley-oops, and dunks.

Here is the movie of one of the team of BJ league.

You can see what it is like.

First, I often practice typing on the internet. So I have some helpful websites to practice it. One is Sushida, and another is E-typing. They are really interesting.

Second, when I'm free, I often play easy games. I will introduce two of them. First one is Offichu love, and another one is Chirami game. They are really comical, and you should try them.

Yakiniku

I really like yakiniku, and I think everyone likes it, too.
Today Iwant to introduce one of my favorite places.
3 weeks ago, I went there with my girlfriend. The name of the place is fu-fu-tei. I think everyone knows that. When I go out to eat yakiniku, I always go there Because we can eat all for about 2600yen. My favorite is tontoro, original salad, and Corean style kuppa. There are fu-fu-tei everywhere in Japan, so I recommend you to go there, if you have never been there.

My dog

Today, I want to talk about one of my family. The picture in the right side is the one. Her name is Cocoa. And she is now 1 year and 9 months old. When she joinned my family, she was so little, and very cute. But now she is really selfish, and sometimes don't obey our orders. And what is worse, she hate to communicate with other people or other dogs who she doesn't know. When she see people that is not my family, she start barking, frightened, and rarely try to communicate with others. In the case of other dogs, it is the same.
But when we see her actions, we are sometimes fascinated with her cuteness. And she is really clever, only when she ask for food.
These days, her actions are really similar to human. And it is really funny to see.
Now see is the irresplaceable to my family.

Commercial for "au"(an analysis)

Today I want to talk about the following television commercial, which you could sometimes see on Japanese TV.

Watch it.

Target audience

First, I think this commercial is directed at people who want to buy a celphone for the first time or who want to exchange thier celphone to a new one.

People who would like a celphone that has wonderful functions are the target. In fact, many functions are introduced in this commercial.

I also think people who are busy with keeping companionship like drinking and eating with their company, as the person who wants to wacth TV in this commercial wears suit.

Finally, it could also be said that couples are the target.

Authority

In this commercial, the authirity is "au" itself, and "au" is one of the most famous and popular bland of celphone, as you know. And most people immediately notice that this is the commercial of "au" by the logo.

Two people who are in this commercial are also considered to be the authorities. But actually I don't know them.

Emotion

This commercial wants to show how convenient this celphone is, as it is rare and amazing that we can wacth TV by celphone and even download "tyakuuta" of the song which is played as BGM on TV.

The man is really in a panic, and he wants to go back home, but the woman is really calm. That is the point that makes us think something about the commercial, I think it's interesting, because there is the humorous gap between the man and the woman. And finally, they come to calm down and watch TV together. That is also the gap between the beginning and the end, it makes us think the product is really fantastic.

Logic/information

This commercial is for people who is busy with something, and can't watch TV. And this commercial also has a great impuct on the image of "au", how good "au" mobile phone, and how different "au" is from other brands. "au" is trying to show that they have many functions of TV. That is the difference, and their merits.

Evaluation

I like this commercial. The situation is very good and realistic, I think. When we are not at home, it's neary imposible to watch TV. And when the emergency has happened and we have to get some information, we can get it through this product with the function of TV. It is really convenient.

But I think there are also other points that have to be considered. I think the function of TV is really good and convenient, but I think it's not so good that we do want to watch TV in everywhere, we should not be absorbed in TV programs al the time, and it's much worse to watch TV in the presence of one's own compny. It might make your company feel borig or angry. Anyway, t's not good to watch TV all the time.

From the point of the idea of the fundtion of TV, it's good and convenient. And this commercial is really good and persuasive. This commercial surely makes us buy the product.

About me

Hi. My name is Akinori Yoshida. I'm a IESa student in Kansai Gaidai University. I worry about my being here in IESa, and wonder whether I could do well. Everyone in this class speaks very well, and I don't. But I believe I myself have some skills that everyone don't have. So I will do my best in this class.

I'm from Takatsuki City in Osaka. It is located next to Hirakata City. So it takes me only 30 minutes to come here by bus. Sometimes I meet Hitomi on the bus, because she lives near my house.

I like listening to western music. Especially I love BLACK EYED PEAS!! I'm a big fan of them. I believe someone would agree with me.

I like playing sports, and I often play basketball in the playground with my friends. If you wanna join, talk to me without constraint. It's fun to play sports with many pople. And I have a dream that we IESa play tag (oni-gokko) in Kansai Gaidai Campus someday.
